Terms of business

What we promise, and what we will not

Written to be read rather than to be survived. The parts that decide whether you get your money back are sections 5 and 6, so they are the longest and the plainest.

1. Who you contract with

Ascribed is a trading name of Domain Farm Ltd, company number 13544286, registered in England and Wales, registered office Vantage House, Euxton Lane, Euxton, Chorley, Lancashire, PR7 6TB. VAT registration number GB435224124. Where these terms say "we" or "us", that is the company you are contracting with. Where they say "you", that is the person or business buying.

Some rights below apply only if you are buying as a consumer, meaning for purposes outside your trade or profession. Where that is the case it says so. If you are buying through a company, those particular rights do not apply, but everything else does.

2. What we provide

We build and maintain the published record of a person so that search engines and AI systems can identify them correctly. Depending on what you buy, that includes some or all of:

What is included in each tier is set out on the pricing section of our homepage at the time you buy. If we agree something different in writing, that takes precedence.

3. What we will not promise

These are the honest limits of the work. They are not disclaimers buried to protect us; they are the reason the guarantee in section 6 exists.

We will never promise you a Google knowledge panel. Google decides whether to create one, using signals it does not publish and can change. Nobody can guarantee a panel, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling. What we do instead is carry the risk with you: see section 6.

4. Prices, VAT and payment

Prices are shown on our site in US dollars, with a dirham equivalent for convenience. Unless stated otherwise, prices are exclusive of VAT.

The exact amount, including any VAT, is shown before you confirm payment. Work begins once payment has cleared, unless we have agreed otherwise in writing. Article placements are charged per article at the price agreed before that article is commissioned.

Nothing renews automatically. There is no retainer and no subscription. If you want more work, you buy more work.

5. Your right to cancel

If you are a consumer

Because you are buying at a distance, you have a legal right to cancel within 14 days of entering into the contract, without giving a reason. To cancel, email hello@ascribed.ai. A clear statement is enough; there is no form to complete.

The part people get caught by, so we are stating it plainly. Our work usually starts quickly, and if you ask us to begin during those 14 days, you keep the right to cancel but you must pay for what has already been done, in proportion to the whole. If we have finished the service entirely within the 14 days at your request, the right to cancel is lost. We will ask you to acknowledge this before starting early, so it is never a surprise.

If you would rather we did not start until the 14 days have passed, say so and we will wait. That costs you nothing but time.

Where a refund is due, we pay it within 14 days of accepting the cancellation, by the same method you paid.

If you are buying through a business

The statutory cancellation right above does not apply. You may still cancel work that has not started and we will refund it. Once work has started, we will charge for what has been done and refund the rest.

6. The three month guarantee

This is the promise the business is built on, so here is exactly how it works.

Buy the full entity set, and if no Google knowledge panel appears for you within three months, we refund what you paid for it in full.

What it covers

How we decide whether a panel appeared

This determines whether money changes hands, so the method matters more than the opinion.

How to claim

Email hello@ascribed.ai at any point within 30 days after the three month period ends. We will run the check, send you the result with its date and method, and pay any refund within 14 days. You do not need to argue your case; the measurement decides it.

What would void it. Only three things: if you asked us not to publish records that the set includes, if you removed or altered published records without telling us, or if the information you gave us turned out to be untrue. Ordinary disagreement about the work does not void it, and neither does changing your mind.

7. What we need from you

8. Images and copyright

When you send us a photograph, you confirm that you are entitled to let us publish it. This catches more people than any other clause, so it is worth being blunt about why.

Paying a photographer does not make you the copyright owner. Under UK law the photographer owns the copyright in a commissioned photograph unless they have assigned it to you in writing. Many people are surprised by this and have no written assignment for the headshot they have used for years.

You grant us a licence to use images and information you supply for the purpose of building and maintaining your record. You keep ownership. The licence lasts as long as the record is live and ends when you ask us to take it down, except where something has been published somewhere permanent, which section 9 explains.

If we ask you for a photograph you own outright, it is because a freely licensed image is the only route to a picture in certain records. Without one, the choice of image is made by the platform rather than by you.

9. What cannot be undone

Contributions to Wikidata, Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons are public, permanent and openly licensed. Their edit histories are preserved and other services copy them. We can request a deletion and often that succeeds, but we do not control those projects and cannot promise it. An image released under a free licence cannot be un-released.

We tell you this before starting rather than after. If you would prefer your record to be built only on surfaces you control, that is a legitimate choice and we will do it that way.

Paid editing on Wikimedia projects must be disclosed under their terms of use. We disclose it. Undeclared paid editing is the main reason such entries get deleted, so this protects your record rather than endangering it.

10. Removals

We never promise a removal. What we do is tell you honestly which category each source falls into, before you spend anything:

Removals are quoted per source after the audit and priced by that category. We do not charge for attempts on sources in the last group, because they cannot succeed.

11. If either of us stops

You can stop at any time. Work already done is chargeable, work not yet started is refunded. Records already published stay live unless you ask us to take them down, and we will action what we can, subject to section 9.

We may stop if you ask us to publish something we believe to be untrue, if you ask us to do something that breaks a platform's rules, or if fees go unpaid. If we stop for the first two reasons we refund the unworked balance. We would rather explain our objection and find another way first, and usually will.

12. Liability

We are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking this contract or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, or for decisions taken by Google, Wikipedia, a publisher or an AI system, which are outside our control.

Except where the law does not allow it to be limited, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us for the work concerned. Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected by anything in these terms.

13. Complaints

Email hello@ascribed.ai. We will acknowledge within two working days and give you a considered answer within ten. If you are a consumer and we cannot resolve it between us, you may be able to use an alternative dispute resolution service, and you can also go to court.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the UK, you may bring proceedings in your own jurisdiction.

If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
